Albuquerque yards just got tastier.

OUR STORY

ABQ Foodscaping Co. was born from a simple truth: the world built around us was not built with your health in mind. After more than a decade in healthcare, founder and Nurse Practitioner Alexandre R. Perrin saw firsthand how many chronic illnesses stemmed from a lack of infrastructure that supports health, specifically poor nutrition and disconnection from nature. Determined to make a deeper impact, he traded scrubs for soil to help families transform their yards into thriving edible landscapes.

With a focus on beauty, function, and sustainability, ABQ Foodscaping Co. is on a mission to reconnect people with their food, their environment, and their health—one yard at a time.

Alexandre’s Journey

2006

I began my path in community health with a trauma-prevention nonprofit in Portland, OR, focused on reducing vehicular injuries and providing low-cost bike helmets to underserved communities.

2014

Graduated from the University of Portland School of Nursing and entered the workforce as a Registered Nurse. My first job in a long-term care facility revealed a difficult truth about how many Americans experience the end of life—and sparked my commitment to change that narrative.

2014-20

Joined the fast-paced world of Emergency Medicine and travel nursing, working in trauma centers across the country. I also carved out plenty of time to travel the globe, including a 9-month stint living in Spain teaching English and exploring new cultures.

2020

My final nursing contract placed me in a New York ER at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a sobering experience that underscored the limits of our healthcare system in managing preventable illness.

2021

Graduated from the University of New Mexico and became a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner. During this time, I planted both personal and literal roots—meeting my incredible wife and settling down in Albuquerque.

2022

Launched Backyard Burque Farms, LLC, a micro-farm that taught me how the land can replace the gym. I discovered firsthand how growing food offers strength, endurance, and connection—no gym membership required; get beet while growing beets!

2023

Transitioned into Gastroenterology, a specialty that aligns perfectly with my passion for food and health. After years in Emergency Medicine, it was time to focus on prevention and long-term wellness.

2025

Founded the ABQ Foodscaping Co. to take my mission beyond the clinic. I realized that if I truly want to help my community thrive—not just survive—I needed to help build healthier environments at home. Because real healthcare starts long before the hospital, in our kitchens, our yards, and the way we live each day.
